Privacy Policy

What data Whydi stores

Whydi stores the following directly on your device, in a local database it manages:

• Tasks, task titles, descriptions, colors, and scheduling/recurrence settings
• Task completion history, including any excuse text you type when resolving a missed deadline
• Statistics derived from that history, such as completion rates, streaks, and which weekday you miss most often
• Annual events (birthdays, anniversaries, imported holidays) you add
• App preferences (theme, language, week-start day, onboarding status)
• A running count of tasks you've completed, and whether the one-time rating prompt has already been shown

None of this is transmitted to us, to the app developer, or to any third party. There is no account, login, or cloud sync of Whydi's own. The data lives on your device, in Android's backup of it in your own Google account if you have that switched on, and in any calendar file you choose to export yourself.

What Whydi does not do

• No account creation or login of any kind
• No analytics, crash reporting, or usage-tracking SDKs
• No advertising, ad networks, or ad identifiers
• No selling, sharing, or transmitting your data to third parties
• No payments, subscriptions, or in-app purchases — Whydi never asks for card or billing details, so it holds no payment information about you
• No network requests of its own — the app functions entirely offline. The only network activity connected to Whydi comes from two Android and Google Play system services described below (backup, and the rating prompt), which run under Google's control, not Whydi's.

What Whydi reads from your device

To schedule reminders at the right moment, Whydi reads two settings from your device: your time zone and your region. The time zone is what lets a deadline stay at the wall-clock time you set it for after a daylight-saving change or after you travel. The region is used to suggest the right public holidays and the right first day of the week.

Both are read from Android's own settings, on your device, at the moment they are needed. Neither is transmitted anywhere, and neither is location data — Whydi does not request or hold any location permission and cannot see where you are.

Permissions Whydi requests, and why

• Display over other apps — required for the overdue reminder to appear above whatever app you're using when a task deadline passes. Used only to draw this reminder; it does not read, record, or capture anything from other apps or from your screen.
• Post notifications — used to warn you before a deadline hits and to remind you of upcoming annual events.
• Alarms & reminders (exact alarms) — required so deadline reminders and the overdue screen fire at the exact scheduled time, even if the app hasn't been opened recently.
• Run at startup — required to restore your scheduled reminders after the device restarts. Android discards all pending alarms on reboot, so without this a deadline set before a restart would never fire.
• Ignore battery optimizations — optional; without it, some phones' battery-saving features can prevent the overdue screen and reminders from firing reliably.
• Vibrate — used for the reminder alert.

None of these permissions are used to collect or transmit data — they exist solely to make the app's reminder features work correctly on your device.

Backups

Whydi uses Android's built-in backup so your tasks survive a new phone or a reinstall. If backup is switched on for your device (Settings → Google → Backup on most phones), Android periodically copies Whydi's task database to your own Google account. Android does the same when you move to a new phone with its phone-to-phone transfer.

• Only the task database is included — the data listed under "What data Whydi stores" above. Nothing else from your device is added by Whydi.
• The copy is created, uploaded, stored and encrypted by Android and Google, on their schedule, under Google's Privacy Policy. Whydi does not send it anywhere itself, and we never receive it or have any way to access it.
• Android restores it automatically when you install Whydi again while signed in to the same Google account. Whydi has no restore button of its own.
• You control this entirely: turn Android backup off, or delete Whydi's backup from your Google account's backup settings, and no copy is kept.

Rating prompt

At most once per install — after you have completed a few tasks, or cleared everything due in a day — Whydi may ask Google Play to show its standard "rate this app" dialog. Whydi works this out on your device, from your own task history, and passes none of that history on. Google Play decides whether the dialog actually appears. Any rating or review you leave goes to Google Play under Google's own terms, and Whydi cannot see whether you rated it or what you wrote.

Importing and exporting your data

Whydi can export everything you've created to a standard calendar file (.ics), and can import tasks from an .ics file you choose. Both actions are started by you and happen entirely on your device:

• When importing, Whydi reads only the single file you pick in Android's file chooser. It has no access to any other file on your device.
• When exporting, Whydi hands the resulting file to Android's standard share sheet. Where it goes from there — saved locally, sent to another app, uploaded to a cloud drive — is entirely your choice, and anything you send it to has its own privacy policy.

Home screen widget

Whydi's optional home screen widget reads your tasks from the same local database and draws them on your home screen. It performs no network access and sends nothing anywhere. Be aware that anything shown on a widget is visible to anyone who can see your home screen, including on the lock screen if your device is configured to show widgets there.

Links and contacting support

Whydi's Settings screen contains links to this privacy policy and to the terms of use. Opening either takes you outside the app to a website, which has its own privacy policy and practices that Whydi does not control.

"Contact support" opens your device's own email app with a new message addressed to us. Whydi does not send anything by itself — nothing is transmitted unless you write the message and send it yourself, and we then see only what you chose to write.

Data security and deletion

Your data is stored locally in the app's private storage area, protected by your device's own security. Uninstalling Whydi, or clearing its app data from Android's App Info screen, deletes everything the app has stored on the device. If Android backup is on, a copy may remain in your Google account's backup (see Backups). You can delete it there, and Google also removes backups of apps you no longer use after a period it sets. Because no copy is ever sent to us, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf and no deletion request to make.

Children's privacy

Whydi is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, regardless of age — it does not collect information from anyone at all, since nothing is ever sent to us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
